Located in Bossier City, Louisiana, and operated by Las Vegas based Harrah's Entertainment, Louisiana Down is considered to be a showcase for a rich blend of horses from Louisiana, Arkansas, and Texas.
Opened in 1974, Louisiana Downs is the home of the popular Grade II Super Derby, a premiere race for 3-year-olds running every September since 1980 at the classic United States stakes distance of 1 1/4 miles (2,000 m). The event usually brings winners and top finishers from the seasonal American Classic races.
The Thoroughbred meet takes place at Louisiana Downs from early May through October. A quarter horse meet is held from January through March.
